O'Reilly and Malkin worried about powerful networks' faux objectivity leading up to 2008 election
News Hounds: As it happens, Romney is widely regarded and documented as a flip-flopper, a derogatory term coined at FOX News during the 2004 presidential election to describe Democrat John Kerry. Romney has been labeled a flip-flopper by the decidedly not liberal Rich Lowry at the National Review On-line, conservative Republican Sam Brownback (who said "Mitt RomneyÕs flip flops are enough to make John Kerry blush"), Outright Libertarians, and RightMarch.com, a conservative political action committee.

A guiding voice
News Journal (DE): In May, several anti-abortion supporters, unhappy with Ting and Mike Protack as the potential Republican Senate candidates, approached her to run in the Republican primary. "Originally I said no," she says. "I never wanted to run for office. I was an outspoken advocate, and if you run you have to water it down. But as someone who prays about every decision I make, I felt like God was leading me in the other direction..." She got the support of the 3-year-old Rightmarch.com, a political action committee which sends out e-mails to a million conservatives nationwide, according to William Greene, executive director. "One of the things we're all about is we're much more on principle than on party," Greene says.

RightMarch.com Endorses Gallagher
St. Petersburg Times: RightMarch.com, the online conservative political action group formed to counterbalance MoveOn.org, announced Thursday it was endorsing Republican Tom Gallagher in the governor's race and pledged to counter any funds Michael Schiavo's TerriPAC puts into the race. TerriPAC has endorsed Democrat Jim Davis, who fought congressional attempts to intervene in the Terri Schiavo case. Gallagher stood with Gov. Jeb Bush in his failed attempt to persuade the Florida Legislature to intervene. "As we promised to do, we're matching 'TerriPAC' dollar for dollar, ad for ad," said RightMarch.com PAC president William Greene, in a news release from the group's Washington, D.C. headquarters. "We cannot simply sit by and allow solid, pro-life politicians to be targeted by the pro-death forces. So we're putting our money where our mouth is."

Conservatives Lobby Against 'Guest Worker' Amnesty
CNSNews.com: A conservative advocacy group says it is launching a multi-state ad campaign targeting U.S. senators who support amnesty for illegal aliens under the guise of "guest worker" programs. William Greene, president of the RightMarch.com political action committee, said senators will have a pile of correspondence waiting for them when they return to their offices next week. "Our members have sent over 300,000 faxes, emails, and hand-delivered letters to the U.S. Senate, to stop the proposed amnesty for illegal aliens," Greene said. He believes a majority of senators are "just waiting for their chance to vote for amnesty" when the Senate reconvenes next week. "They're ready to vote the opposite of how their constituents want them to vote -- so now, we're taking this battle to them," he said.

"The entire left wing has been gunning after Congressman DeLay for years," said William Greene, president of RightMarch .com, a conservative group. "Yes, he won't be in Congress any longer Ð but there's no doubt that now he'll be a leader in other ways, moving the conservative agenda forward at a pace that will make the left wish they had just left him alone."

Illegal plea for illegals' cash?
Deseret News (UT): As Rep. Chris Cannon sat by, one of his aides urged any illegal aliens listening to a Spanish-language radio talk show to funnel money into his campaign by giving it to U.S. citizens who could donate it legally. However, federal law not only bans political donations from foreign nationals, it also bans such funneling through citizens, too Ñ and the solicitation or receipt of it. Still, Marco Diaz, an aide to Cannon, R-Utah, told Radio Unica in Spanish on May 22, "If you are undocumented you must find, we welcome this money, but you have to find someone who is legal in order to donate money."

Salt Lake Tribune (UT): An anti-immigration group is accusing Utah Rep. Chris Cannon of soliciting illegal campaign donations from undocumented immigrants during an appearance on a Spanish-language radio station. Matt Throckmorton for the Republican Party nomination in Utah's 3rd Congressional District.

Cannon ahead in new poll, But Throckmorton sees signs that he might be vulnerable
Deseret News (UT): Rep. Chris Cannon, R-Utah, leads fellow Republican Matt Throckmorton in their primary match-up for the 3rd Congressional District seat, according to a new Deseret Morning News/KSL-TV poll... Cannon and Throckmorton both lead Democratic nominee Beau Babka, pollster Dan Jones found in a survey conducted last week... While Throckmorton trails Cannon, he thinks the poll shows Cannon might be a vulnerable four-term incumbent. "The first thing is that Chris should be in the low 60s," Throckmorton said. "These numbers show a bit of concern with what's going on. And I bet that of those 47 out of 100 people, most probably don't know how passionately Chris supported (the) No Child Left Behind (education-reform act). Our campaign will clearly articulate where we stand on No Child Left Behind, immigration and the national debt. The numbers are going to change a little bit."

GOP incumbents face challenges on immigration
Washington Times: Immigration is turning into an election battleground among Republicans, with several challengers running primary campaigns against leading congressional supporters of legalizing illegal aliens. Rep. Christopher B. Cannon, Utah Republican and a prominent legalization supporter, failed to win 60 percent of the vote at a Republican nominating convention a little more than a week ago. Now, he faces a primary next month against Matt Throckmorton, a former state legislator who is running hard on the immigration issue.

GOP revolution on its last legs
Chicago Sun-Times (IL): ...That situation suggests the current realignment cycle in American politics is nearing an end after 36 years, with the Republican Party displaying symptoms of a nervous breakdown. The party's leadership, from President Bush on down, went out of its way to push the undependable Republican Sen. Arlen Specter to victory against a staunch conservative in the Pennsylvania primary because he was considered a stronger general election candidate. In contrast, dependably conservative Coburn gets no establishment support in the contested Oklahoma primary, though he is the best bet in November.

Specter could be losing support in Pa.
The Hill (DC): After emerging from a tough primary, centrist Republican Sen. Arlen Specter (Pa.) may be losing the conservative base he needs to win in November. Some supporters of Specter's conservative primary challenger, Rep. Pat Toomey, are planning to reach across the political spectrum and vote for Rep. Joe Hoeffel (D-Pa.), Specter's opponent, said Anthony Loeper, who served as Toomey's Philadelphia-area coordinator in the primary race... Specter also will face a challenge from a conservative third-party candidate. Jim Clymer, chairman of the Constitution Party and a Lancaster, Pa., lawyer, said the party will have a candidate on the November ballot - most likely Clymer himself.

Cannon "shocker:" immigration issue forces primary battle
ProjectUSA: Delegates to Utah's state GOP convention dealt entrenched four-term Congressman Chris Cannon a stunning political blow Saturday when he failed to gather enough support to avoid a primary battle against a young challenger who made Cannon's stand on illegal immigration his major campaign issue... After the vote, Cannon, who outspent Throckmorton more than 18-1 in the campaign, complained to the Deseret News about the influence of money in the contest. "A lot of money has come into this race from out of state," he said, "all over the misinterpreted phrase 'amnesty.'"... According to Federal Election Commission data posted by The Center For Responsive Politics, 94% of the non-PAC contributions to Cannon's reelection campaign have come from out of state -- the vast majority of it from the Washington, DC metro area. PACs, meanwhile, have kicked in $195,188 so far to make sure Cannon goes back to Washington. Ninety-three percent of the PAC money coming from business special interests -- many representing industries that profit by Cannon's creative interpretation of the word "amnesty" or his efforts to raise the import quotas on foreign labor.

Men's News Daily: Conservative political action committee RightMarch.com successfully recruited former Republican Utah state senator Matt Throckmorton to run against incumbent U.S. Rep. Cannon is forced into primary battle in the 3rd District
Deseret News (UT): Another shocker was four-term Rep. Chris Cannon, forced into a primary with former Utah House member Matt Throckmorton in the 3rd Congressional District... Cannon said he was disappointed to face another primary - his second in four re-elections. "A lot of money has come into this race from out of state - all over the misinterpreted phrase 'amnesty,' " Cannon said after it was announced that he fell just short of 60 percent and would face Throckmorton, who campaigned against Cannon's stands on immigration. Now more will come in the primary, he added. "We'll raise the money we need to get our message out." But this primary will be tougher than the one he faced in 1998, when an unknown and under-funded Republican running from Cannon's right forced the incumbent into a primary.

Throckmorton joins Congress race again
Deseret News (UT): Former state representative Matt Throckmorton announced Saturday that he will challenge fellow Republican Chris Cannon in Utah's 3rd Congressional District... In his announcement, made in front of a group of about 100 family and friends Saturday morning, Throckmorton said he will focus on immigration reform, the economy, education and the No Child Left Behind act. "We need to secure our border," he said. "I support legal immigration but not illegal immigration." And this time around, Throckmorton said he thinks he will have enough backers at the Republican Convention to reach a primary election. Candidates who receive 40 percent of convention delegates or more go on to a primary.

Santorum Beats Conservatives: Toomey lost to the Republican party, president and all
National Review: Pat Toomey's campaign was a model of hard work and honesty, but he ended it with a lie. In his concession speech before a tearful crowd in the Holiday Inn, Toomey began by speaking of the ideas of freedom, limited government, and traditional values. "These ideas," he said, "are at the heart of the Republican party. These ideas are what the Republican party is about." If the Republican party had these ideas at its core, Pat Toomey would be the nominee for U.S. Senate.

Miller may challenge Sen. Murkowski
Fairbanks Daily News-Miner (AK): Former state Sen. Mike Miller said Monday he may ask voters in the August primary to pick him as the Republican U.S. Senate candidate instead of incumbent Sen. "We're still talking about it," Miller said, referring to himself and his wife, Susan. They own and operate Santa Claus House, a family business in North Pole, a town of 1,700 on the Richardson Highway roughly 15 miles from Fairbanks. Miller said several Republican Party leaders and "stalwarts" asked him to enter the race. "Most of them believe that Lisa cannot beat Tony, and, quite frankly, think I would beat Tony," Miller said. Walrath gears up for Boehlert challenge
The Daily Star (NY): Republican Dr. David Walrath of Auburn announced he is raising funds for another run for the office. In 2002, Walrath came close to defeating Boehlert in a Republican primary that was not decided until absentee ballots were counted. After losing the Republican primary, Walrath stayed in the race for Congress as a Conservative and lost to Boehlert by a wide margin in the general election. On Monday, Walrath's campaign committee sent out a notice that he is gearing up for another attempt to unseat Boehlert. "For too long, we have experienced the loss of our best and brightest people, industry, and good jobs in central New York," Walrath said in a prepared statement. "My candidacy will be about job creation for our region, while preserving the core Republican values of lower taxes and responsible government spending."

Miller vs. Knowles: Who can win in November?
Miller Campaign: Lisa Murkowski is not conservative enough to unite the Republican base behind her in the battle to defeat Knowles. A study by the respected National Journal shows that Lisa Murkowski is the sixth most liberal Republican out of 51 in the Senate. She is the second-most liberal Republican west of the Mississippi River and the most liberal member of Alaska’s Congressional delegation. Her composite conservative score of 55 percent is well behind Ted Stevens’ 66 percent and Don Young’s 77 percent conservative scores. Mike Miller is a trusted, conservative leader who is battle-tested after more than two decades of service in elected office, including serving as Republican Senate President. Mike Miller can unite the Republican base and defeat Tony Knowles in the November 2nd general election.
