Pelosi demands an investigation into House Majority Leader Tom DeLay for completely unfounded allegations, but she won't say ONE WORD about all of her fellow Democrats that have done even more than what she accuses DeLay of.
She insists on a full-fledged "investigation" into allegations of travel ethics violations by Tom DeLay, but refuses to ask for investigations into Democratic Reps. Norm Dicks of Washington, Bennie Thompson of Mississippi, James E. Clyburn of South Carolina and Neil Abercrombie of Hawaii, all of whom face questions about accepting travel paid for by lobbyists.
And what is Nancy Pelosi's response when confronted with her blatant hypocrisy? She claims that what Democrats did were mere "technicalities," not ethics violations.
Right.
It's obvious that Nancy Pelosi's repeated calls for an investigation of Tom DeLay are more driven by politics than by any real concern for the House rules. What is a "technicality" for her requires a full-scale investigation for others.
But her hypocrisy doesn't end there.
Reports now show that Pelosi actually took at least one trip -- to Puerto Rico, no less, in 2001 -- paid for by a Washington lobbying firm. And she took the trip with -- get this -- a Democrat member of the House Ethics Committee!
The Washington Times reported that Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, Ohio Democrat and member of the House Ethics Committee, listed a registered lobbyist, Smith, Dawson & Andrews, as the trip's sponsor. After this "discrepancy" was made public, Rep. Jones "amended" her travel disclosure form to match Rep. Pelosi's, who had the foresight to hide the trip's actual sponsor on her form.
Now, both Pelosi and Jones are refusing to release any records to prove that lobbyists didn't pay for their trip.
But the hypocrisy doesn't stop there. While Nancy Pelosi has been viciously attacking Rep. Tom DeLay for taking a trip to Korea paid for by the Korea-United States Exchange Council (KORUSEC), she has IGNORED the fact that her own staffer, Eddie Charmaine Manansala, took the SAME trip with the SAME group! Then he waited almost one year to even file the required disclosure form with the House reporting that trip!
Ah, but the hits just keep on coming. Reports have now surfaced showing that another Pelosi staffer, Transportation Adviser Lara Levison, took a nine-day, $4,475 trip to Spain and Germany, paid for by the president of an organization (WestStart-CALSTART) that Pelosi had just secured a ONE MILLION DOLLAR GRANT for, and for whom she secured ANOTHER TWO MILLION DOLLARS just one month later!
Is Pelosi demanding an investigation of her staffer? Don't hold your breath.
